Logo Questions

1. Logos change and evolve over time in order to appeal to new emerging markets or demographics, or just because they realize their current logo doesn't communicate the things they need it to.
2. Typically, more effective logos are created over time when their businesses reflect on their brand and reputation. Apple changed it's logo from the rainbow apple to the blue apple and later the glass apple because the aesthetics of the objects it was put on clashed with the logo.
3. I distinctly remember the Ebay logo changing from it's sporadic, energetic design to a more orderly, "vanilla" design.
4. One logo redesign that was unsuccessful was the WWE logo redesign. The original messy W conveyed the rebellious nature of many of the wrestlers in the stable at the time, and communicated the frenetic energy associated with their shows easily. The new, "clean" W was meant to convey the brands change from a graphic and highly dangerous competition to a more orderly and contemporary business. The redesign failed to account for the fact that WWE cannot be described as "orderly" or "contemporary" in order to remain successful, as the viewer base for wrestling is used to the old, rebellious style of wresters like Stone Cold Steve Austin or The Rock.
